What this site stores on your device, who sets it, and why. Nothing here is for analytics or advertising, which is why this site does not greet you with a consent banner over the price.

1The short version
We do not use analytics cookies, advertising cookies or any other tracking. We do not show a cookie banner, because nothing this site stores needs your consent.
What we do store keeps your booking in progress, keeps your payment secure, checks that the price and booking forms are used by a person rather than a bot, keeps you signed in if you sign in, and remembers whether you chose a light or dark appearance.
2What the law says
The Privacy and Electronic Communications (EC Directive) Regulations 2003, known as PECR, say a website must ask your consent before storing information on your device or reading it, with some exceptions. The rule covers cookies and similar technologies, such as your browser's local storage and session storage.
Two exceptions, in Schedule A1 to those Regulations as it has applied since 5 February 2026, cover what we store. No consent is needed where storage is strictly necessary for a service you have asked for, which includes protecting the information you give us, preventing fraud, detecting faults, signing you in and remembering choices you make on the site. And no consent is needed to remember how you want the site to look, as long as we tell you clearly what we store and give you a simple, free way to object.
The Information Commissioner's Office is clear that analytics and advertising are not strictly necessary. We use neither.
3What we store ourselves
Your appearance preference, stored under the name chauffeur.theme in your browser's local storage. It is set only when you change the light or dark setting, and holds one word: light, dark or auto. It stays on your device, is never sent to us, and remains until you clear this site's data. To object, clear this site's data in your browser settings, and the site will follow your device's own light or dark setting.
Your booking in progress, stored under the name chauffeur.booking.draft.v1 in your browser's session storage. It keeps what you have typed while you book, such as addresses, the date and time, passengers, names and contact details and any note for the chauffeur, so a refresh or the back button does not lose it. It never includes card details, which Stripe collects directly. Your browser deletes it when you close the tab, and we ignore it once it is six hours old.
Your sign-in session, a cookie that keeps you signed in to your account after you use the link we email you, so you do not have to sign in on every page. You only receive it if you sign in.
4Stripe, on the payment step
When you reach the payment step, Stripe's payment form loads and Stripe sets cookies to prevent fraud. You cannot pay by card without them. Stripe lists them as __stripe_mid, kept for one year, and __stripe_sid, kept for 30 minutes, which help it assess the risk of a payment attempt, and m, kept for two years on m.stripe.com, for fraud detection.

5Cloudflare Turnstile, on the price and booking forms
Turnstile checks that our price and booking forms are used by a person rather than a bot, usually without showing you anything. Cloudflare says it does not set cookies by default, collects your IP address, browser details and a technical fingerprint of your connection, and uses them solely to detect and block bots. It needs your browser storage to be available. Its privacy information is at https://www.cloudflare.com/turnstile-privacy-policy/.
6Address suggestions
When you type an address, what you type is sent from our server to Google Maps Platform to suggest matching addresses. Google's script is not loaded on our pages, so Google stores nothing on your device through this site. Google's use of the information is covered by the Google Privacy Policy at https://policies.google.com/privacy.
7How to control storage
You can block or delete cookies and site data in your browser settings. If you block the storage described above as strictly necessary, parts of the site will not work: you may not be able to sign in, keep a booking in progress, or pay by card. You can still book by calling the telephone number at the foot of every page.
8Changes to this page
If we ever add anything that needs your consent, such as analytics, we will ask before setting it, and publish a new version of this page first.

A published version is never edited. A correction is a new version with a new effective date, and your booking keeps the version you agreed to.
