What people ask

How do I know I am getting into the right car?

Before pickup we send the chauffeur's first name, their driver licence number and the car's registration, make, model and colour. Check the registration matches, and ask the chauffeur who they are collecting before you get in.

What if the details do not match?

Do not get in. Move somewhere safe and call the telephone number at the foot of every page, and we will tell you whether anything has changed.

Are your chauffeurs checked?

Yes. A Hertsmere Borough Council private hire driver licence, granted only after an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check. A medical to the DVLA Group 2 standard, the one asked of lorry and bus drivers. The council's knowledge test, taken in English. A re-check at every renewal, recorded with who checked it and when.

Can I speak to someone during the journey?

Yes. A person answers our telephone number at any time while a journey is under way. In an emergency, call 999 first.

Do children need a child seat?

We strongly recommend one, and you can book an infant seat, a child seat or a booster as an extra. The law allows children to travel in a private hire car without one only on a rear seat.

How do I report a safety concern?

Call us, or use any route on our complaints page. The owner of the business sees every safety concern the same day, and you can also report a chauffeur in writing to Hertsmere Borough Council. Where a complaint alleges violence, a sexual offence or a risk to a child or a vulnerable adult, conditions 30c and 30d require us to notify the council and the police immediately, and we do.
